Pelag Foundation

Pelag Foundation, established on January 5, 2023, is a vibrant non-governmental organization (NGO) grounded in the rural landscape of Uttarakhand, India. Founded by two determined youth activists, Ms. Kritika Bisht and Ms. Ritika Bisht, the foundation emerged from a collective vision to enhance and uplift communities in the Uttarakhand region and across India. Recognizing the critical necessity for social development, Pelag Foundation strives to address the pressing needs of local communities. Its mission is driven by an overarching goal to promote sustainable, equitable, and participatory development that strengthens social welfare, health services, and sports initiatives. With a registered address in Almora, Uttarakhand, Pelag Foundation aims to create a solid framework for community progress.Since its inception, Pelag Foundation has been actively working towards the realization of social justice and development. The organization supports various social work activities that touch upon critical areas such as education, health care, women's empowerment, and environmental sustainability. In just a short span of time, Pelag Foundation has significantly impacted approximately 2,500 individuals, particularly focusing on rural populations in remote hilly areas. By harnessing community strengths and local resources, the foundation envisions a future where entrenched poverty no longer holds people back. At Pelag Foundation, we believe that education, healthcare, and economic independence are foundational elements of a thriving society. Our commitment to trauma-informed care and empathetic outreach enables us to actively engage with diverse stakeholders, ensuring that we break the cycle of poverty that plagues many families. With our focus on women, children, and youth, we recognize that these groups hold the potential to catalyze substantial positive change. By providing access to resources and opportunities, we empower individuals to reach their full potential, thereby aiding in the construction of a more just and equitable society. Pelag Foundation on being recognized as a social impact startup by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India. This recognition can open up opportunities for funding, networking, and policy benefits. The Startup India Registration number is DIPP189827. In 2025, the Pelag Foundation was honored with the "Grassroot Changemaker Award" by the Australian Awards, recognizing our impactful work at the grassroots level in the challenging and remote Himalayan regions of Uttarakhand, India. This prestigious international recognition acknowledges our commitment to empowering marginalized communities, promoting sustainable development, and delivering innovative solutions in hard-to-reach areas. Pelag Foundation is officially listed in the UN DESA Civil Society database (eSANGO), highlighting our global and commitment to sustainable development and women empowerment. International Recognition Pelag Foundation is proud to be an Active Member of the Global Environment Facility Civil Society Organization (GEF CSO) Network in the South Asia Region (Membership ID: M-11318, valid until 31 December 2031). This international affiliation reflects the Foundation’s commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, and community-led development. As a member of the GEF CSO Network, Pelag Foundation is connected with a global community of civil society organizations working on environmental and sustainable development issues. The membership enhances the Foundation’s international profile and provides opportunities for knowledge sharing, policy dialogue, capacity building, networking, and collaborative initiatives. It also strengthens Pelag Foundation’s ability to work with national and international stakeholders in advancing innovative, community-driven solutions that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and inclusive development in Uttarakhand and beyond.
