Ankhlave Arts Alliance

Ankhlave Arts Alliance is a W.A.G.E. certified nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization for the advancement of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) in the contemporary art realm. AnkhLave (that’s “Enclave” with an “Ankh”) is based in New York City, and produces annual programming including our AnkhLave Garden Project Fellowship, AnkhLave Curator Fellowship, and the Ankhlave Public Artist in Residence. We believe art is an ideal platform for the exchange of ideas and perspectives. Art allows people the opportunity to engage in conversations that can be difficult to confront, politically and socially, and opens the floor for conversations between people of diverse communities that may not have engaged otherwise. We believe art has the power to influence, change and even subvert culture in favor of more nuanced perspectives and for more equitable presence within the greater society. In keeping with our mission to facilitate exchange of ideas between and within marginalized communities, we seek to present programming beyond the traditional white-walled gallery space, and in alternative public spaces within BIPOC communities. One reason for this is to honor the legacy of many BIPOC people’s Indigenous heritage from around the world, which can include creative works that are sculpted, worn, performed in or displayed outdoors in nature. Spaces like botanical and community gardens are inclusive as it can be transformed into an unexpected exhibition space, inspiring wonder and curiosity when stumbled upon. Many communities within the BIPOC umbrella are polarized by the art establishment due to colonialism, with many of their homeland’s artworks taken and exhibited for non BIPOC audiences. In this sense, even their own people's work becomes othered to them. Moreover, art history has historically been authored through the European gaze, and omitted many experiences and viewpoints around the world. Contemporary art in recent history is becoming more inclusive, though many potential BIPOC audience members need more representation in order to feel included in the contemporary art conversation. We believe the best way to can elevate BIPOC voices and the communities they are representing is by bringing their artwork to the people, in a public space that is unexpected and accessible for maximum community engagement.

Chicago Tiny House, Inc. exists to create tiny house communities throughout Chicago that will provide homeless Chicagoans with safe, cost-effective housing and integrated supportive services. We have been helping the homeless of Chicago for over 30 years collectively. Specifically working with the Uptown Tent City over the last two years. Tent City housed an estimated population of 70 people. Who all lived under the bridges of Wilson and Lawrence Avenues at Lake Shore Drive. Our cause does not stop with the elimination of this community. We are completely volunteer-powered by bringing together concerned citizens, advocates, lawmakers, and donors. So, we can bring shelter, food, and supportive services to our most vulnerable neighbors, greatly reducing homelessness. While helping them move forward with dignity. Chicago Tiny House has partnered with, and is in touch with, both sides of the housing problem. We are knowledgeable about, and actually live alongside, our target demographic. We have created a growing database of followers, developers, donors, contractors, government agencies, and laborers. So, we bring a unique perspective and experience to this process. We are committed Chicagoans with small-business acumen as well as having a boots-on-the-ground relationship with our local homeless population. Our hope is to propose, implement, and operate Chicago’s first Tiny House Community. We can’t do it alone. CASA for Children of Bergen County

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for Children of Bergen County believes every child who's been abused or neglected deserves to have a dedicated advocate speaking up for their best interest in court, at school and in our community. To accomplish this, CASA educates and empowers diverse community volunteers who ensure each child's needs remain a priority in an over-burdened child welfare system. When the state steps in to protect a child's safety because the people responsible for protecting them have not, a judge appoints a trained CASA volunteer to make independent and informed recommendations and help the judge decide what's best for the child.

Our mission is to support older adults to age successfully in their Brooklyn communities. To age successfully, one needs to have: Financial security – having enough money to pay one’s bills. Food security – having sufficient food and nutrition. Access to health care – being able to get to and pay for doctors and medication. A safe, affordable, and comfortable place to live. One’s basic tasks of daily life accomplished – from bathing to bill-paying. Social supports that prevent isolation. Our mission and values have remained steadfast since 1971. We believe that older adults are valuable contributing members of their communities, who are entitled to live as independently as possible with dignity and personal choice. We believe that professionally delivered home-based and community-based social services are essential for maintaining the health and wellbeing of older adults. We believe that support for family caregivers is critical in keeping older adults healthy, at home, and connected to family and community. We believe that engaging community volunteers to provide social interaction for their older neighbors contributes to increased health, satisfaction and longevity. We believe that by bringing youth and older adults together in intergenerational programs not only gives youth a knowledge and appreciation of the challenges of aging, but also strengthens the bonds between generations and brightens the lives of older Brooklynites.
