Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys is a non-profit Christian housing ministry founded on the belief that every man, woman and child deserves a safe, decent and affordable home to call their own. Habitat Middle Keys began in 1991 and is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope. We are a volunteer based locally run affiliate dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide. All are welcome and Habitat for Humanity of the Middle Keys has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views, or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serve people in need of decent housing without regard of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. We define “first-generation college student” as anyone whose parents or guardians have not completed a four-year college degree.We know that for students who don’t have a family history of higher education, being the first to go to college requires support and encouragement sometimes not found at home, in school, or in the community.
